V8 Utes to run Ford BF Cup

The V8 Ute series will run a competition within the series specifically for the Ford BF XR8 5.4 model when the 2018-2019 championship begins at Pukekohe Park in December.

The Ford BF was the new introduction model when the series commenced in 2008. The ute has been competing for 11 seasons and it is hoped a new competition with prize money will encourage more owners to bring out the machines for either the entire four round championship or just selected rounds on either the North or South Island calendar. Three examples of the model in excellent condition with good history and known to the series are currently available for sale at exceptional prices for a V8 powered racing machine.

The model will also remain eligible for overall points. It's a move series managing director Paul Isaac hopes will bring more of the 12 vehicles in New Zealand out of sheds and onto the track.

“A BF won the series as recently as 2014 and the model has won individual races in the past two seasons,” he explained. “We know exactly how many there are out there and they would be very welcome in the series. In the right hands any of the BF machines  could still be an overall winner.

"The BF is still a very competitive racer and this is simply a common sense approach to try and make the most of the eligible machinery out there in the New Zealand marketplace. It could and should give a new lease of life to the original Ford BF V8 racing ute. That will enhance the category as one of the most accessible ways for a young driver or an enthusiastic amateur racer to get into the New Zealand championship series to compete and be part of what we believe is the best racing community in the country, especially as we have reduced round and consumable costs so significantly over the past three seasons.”

The V8 Ute brigade begins their 12th season over the weekend of 7-9 December at Pukekohe Park Raceway before moving to Highlands Motorsport Park in Cromwell in January, then the New Zealand Grand Prix meeting in February before the season finale at Hampton Downs in March.
