Spratt wins again at Highlands

Matt ‘Stinger’ Spratt has taken the final NZ V8 Ute series race win at Highlands Motorsport Park in the Primogrow Ford after an impressive weekend at the Cromwell track.

Spratt won the race comfortably – and secured the round win - ahead of Paul ‘Auto’ Manuell in second and Andrew ‘Hireman’ Porter in third.

He took an immediate lead from pole position off the start while Manuell hustled his Superfreight Commodore up to second from third on the grid by the bus stop. Spratt and Manuell ran closely together in the early phases of the race but became separated later on as Spratt stamped his authority on the race.

Andrew ‘Hireman’ Porter and Peter ‘Kaos’ Ward in their Holdens fought all race over third position and the final step on the podium. Porter held the spot for the length of the race but not without a constant and fierce attack from a very racy and spectacular Ward.

Glen ‘Coyote’ Collinson in the DNA Paints Ford and Brett ‘The Scud’ Rudd in the LOSCAM Pallet Supplies Holden provided the sole incident of the race on the final lap when the pair made contact at the hairpin.

The incident resulted in Collinson’s Falcon parting ways with its right rear wheel. While Rudd would go on to finish fifth, the erstwhile championship leader was able to nurse his wounded car around the track for the remainder of the lap and across the line to finish ninth.
