Spratt dominates opening NZ V8 Ute race at Highlands

Matt ‘Stinger’ Spratt has dominated the opening race of the NZ V8 Utes at Highlands Motorsport Park, taking the win in the Primogow Ford from Peter ‘Kaos’ Ward by over three seconds. Andrew ‘Hireman’ Porter took the final podium position after a dynamic battle through-out the entire race.

After a clean getaway by the field, ‘Stinger’ Spratt quickly extended his pole position advantage as the pack behind him battled for position. Paul ‘Auto’ Manuell in the Superfreight Holden looked very ‘racy’ behind ‘Kaos’ Ward, making sure the latter saw him in his mirrors.

The headline battle of the race started on just the second lap when Glen ‘Coyote’ Collinson in the DNA Paints Ford, Manuell and Porter bunched up and slugging it out. The duo went nose to tail, lap after lap for the final podium spot, until the penultimate lap when Porter managed to break the two behind him and leave Collinson and Manuell to scrap it out for fourth.

Collinson would beat Manuell to the line to finish fourth and fifth respectively while Alexandra Whitley finished sixth ahead of Geoff ‘SOS’ Spencer in seventh.

Brett ‘The Scud’ Rudd came home eighth, Simon Usher ninth and David Lowe tenth.
