Moore win means title will go to last round
Richard 'Danger' Moore delivered his second win of the weekend at the New Zealand Grand Prix to ensure the fight for the 2017 PORTERGROUP V8 Utes championship title goes down to the wire at the final round at Hampton Downs.
Starting from pole position after a first and third netted him top points, Moore was out front by the end of Turn 1 and never looked back over the ten lap encounter, winning the race, the round and moving to just points behind Paul 'Auto' Manuell with one round - only three races - to go.
"The team have done a great job this weekend. At the start we were nowhere really, down in sixth or seventh in practice and with a second to find," he explained. "But they got their heads down and delivered a great car for the races and have done really well to take the round. There's still a decent gap to make up at Hampton Downs, but I've done literally thousands of laps around there, so we will be confident as a team we can come up with a competitive car for the final round."
Brett 'The Scud' Rudd completed a strong weekend in the LOSCAM Holden with another second place - his best of the season bar his race win at Pukekohe back in Round 1 - though a little frustrated he wasn't able to mount a concerted challenge to Moore as he felt he had the car, but not the tyres, to do so.
Matt 'Stinger' Spratt was fast again in the KPH Transport Holden, taking third in a race he described as 'busy'. Championship leader Manuell had another frustrating race in the ORIX Holden, going well initially but then falling victim to further mechanical gremlins and bodywork damage from contact with Spratt, all of which left him down in fourth. He still had a decent gap over Geoff 'SOS' Spencer, though, who completed a solid weekend at his local track with fifth place in the Coresteel Buildings Holden.
Glen 'Coyote' Collinson made a great comeback from being turned at the infield hairpin early on in the DNA Paints Ford, fighting back to sixth place, while Nigel 'Hammered' Hanley took seventh in the Placemakers Holden. Jeff 'Ripples' Kernohan was eighth for KCL Ford, Simon 'The Bandit' Ussher ninth in the United Freight Ford after a late pass on 'Dirty' Dave Kernohan in the second KCL Ford. Jamie 'Slenderman' Gaskin and Peter 'Kaos' Ward completed the runners after visits to the pit lane.
